The International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN) is a leading international conference devoted to exchange of research results in the field of wirelessly networked embedded systems. Each year the conference has a “featured topic” that puts a focus on a hot topic without excluding other topics in the scope of the conference. The featured topic is supported by special events such as the different competitions. Several workshops, tutorials, and special events are typically held in conjunction with the conference. The main track features a winter and a summer deadline, offering an opportunity to revise and resubmit promising papers. EWSN also features a journal track in cooperation with ACM TOSN and TIOT, where authors of recently published journal papers can present their work to the EWSN audience. EWSN is held in cooperation with ACM SIGBED and ACM SIGMOBILE, proceedings are published in the ACM Digital Library following an open access model, and are indexed in SCOPUS, DBLP and other libraries.
The EWSN Steering Committee is seeking proposals for the organization of EWSN 2026 at international locations that are easy to reach from Europe or at locations in Europe. Such proposals should contain:
Description of the proposed venue (pictures help)
Reachability of the venue from Europe and the World
Options for accommodation in the vicinity of the venue, including approximate room rates
Options for social events
Names and short biographies of the proposed (two) general chairs and (two) program chairs. All suggested chairs should have an excellent international standing and research track record. Chairs should include persons from Europe, Asia/Australia, and North America.
Outline of the conference budget including estimated registration fees (typically around 400 EUR in the past for the full registration fee)
Research and industry activities related to EWSN in the region of the venue
Suggestions for a featured topic along with special events supporting this topic
Proposal for conference date and full-paper winter and summer deadlines. The two deadlines should be carefully selected to avoid overlap with other related conferences and thus maximize number and quality of submissions.
Tentative sponsors for the conference
Proposals should be sent by email as a single PDF file containing at most 6 pages to Kay Römer <roemer@tugraz.at>. The steering committee will review all proposals and may contact the proposers to obtain additional information. The submission deadline for proposals to host EWSN 2026 is April 15, 2025. Notifications are planned to be sent out one month later. At least one of the chairs of the successful proposal is expected to attend EWSN 2025 (September 22-24, 2025 in Leuven, Belgium) to introduce next year’s venue to the audience in person.
Since 2004, EWSN has been annually held at European destinations such as Berlin (Germany), Istanbul (Turkey), Zurich (Switzerland), Delft (Netherlands), Bologna (Italy), Cork (Ireland), Coimbra (Portugal), Graz (Austria), Uppsala (Sweden) or Madrid (Spain). In 2019 and 2024, EWSN was held outside of Europe in Beijing, China and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, respectively. It is a 3-4-day event with workshops, tutorials or other affiliated events on the first day, followed by a single-track technical program. In addition to that, special events (e.g., competition, phd school) have been held before the conference. An important element of the conference is a combined demonstration and poster session with 30-50 exhibits. The conference was typically held on a university campus, occasionally also in a hotel. In the last years it typically had about 100-150 attendees.
